J&K Wildlife - Happy News

Amidst all the tragedy unfolding in J&K here is some happy news. The J&K Government has constituted a wildlife advisory board in pursuance of section 5 of the J-K Wildlife (protection) Act, 1978. Chief minister Omar Abdullah will be the chairman of the board.

I still remember vividly my visit to Dachigam National park, the abode of endangered Hangul or the Kashmir stag situated around 22 km away from Srinagar. It is a beautiful Park with scenic grandeur. Other notable animals include Musk deer and the Himalayan marmot. Snow leopard is another endangered animal that is found in J&K.

Conservationists around the world are delighted that amidst all the human suffering and consequent rub off on wildlife a big step has been taken in the right direction as far as wildlife conservation is concerned.
